Techno is one of the oldest genres of electronic music chronologically gaining populairty right after house music. Techno sprung up in Detroit and Europe and late 1980s and is characterized by a repetitive feel to it, mechanical beats (4/4 drum kicks) and faster tempo ranging from 120 to 150 BPM. Juan Atkins is widely cited as the originator of techno, while more modern techno DJs are Nina Kraviz, Richie Hawtin and Solomun. Techno music has gone through several iterations and some of the subgneres are minimal, tech house and ambient techno.
