Neo-soul guitar-driven music is characterized by its fusion of soulful melodies, intricate guitar riffs, and a contemporary approach to traditional soul and r&b. I first got into that specific sound when I discovered the early work of Tom Misch and have been enjoying searching for this specific feeling ever since.

Some of the artists I find inspiring include Daniel Caesar and his work on Freudian (2017), Melanie Faye, Beau Diako who are also known for their vocal abilities, but also the works of Ruben Wan and Matt Quentin. Needless to say - I have to mention some of my favorite artists on Stereofox Records who also create within the neo-soul guitar space - Kazuki Isogai, Peyotoff, Toshiki Soejima, Rebecca Mardal and Metic.

For over a year I've been curating our neo soul guitar playlist (available on all streaming platform), so I hope you enjoy my taste and more than 5 hours of this beautiful music.

The neo-soul guitar sonic space often incorporates smooth and emotive guitar phrasing, creating a distinct sonic landscape that blends the warmth of classic soul with modern influences. Neo-soul guitarists frequently employ techniques such as fingerpicking, slurs, and slides to infuse their playing with soulful expression. I have to say - in recent years this subgenre/niche sound has certainly gained popularity for its ability to evoke a sense of intimacy and emotional depth, making it a unique and captivating facet of the broader neo-soul movement.

Stay up to date.
