Since the end of 2025, I have a new playlist obsession, and that's our global psychedelic selection. I've spent countless hours trying to find that perfect vibe, a cross-section of chill and trippy, and every time something comes on my radar, I feel this rush of joy I can't explain. That's what happened when I found Italian cosmic funk trio Atabasca and their new song, "Kundela Mawedi".
Atabasca is comprised of Luca Mongia, Paolo Mazziotti, and Valerio Pompei, who created a cosmic blend of psych-funk, chill out, and feel-good dreamy exotica. The song will be part of their upcoming self-titled debut album, scheduled for release on March 27 via Killer Groove Records - an independent label celebrating the groove legacy. The label quickly won me over with their stellar selection of soul, funk, jazz, and afrobeats, and the way they honor classic sounds while reimagining them with fresh, modern energy.
The 10-track album is a mesmerizing sonic journey where funk, psychedelia, and desert groove merge into a timeless narrative suspended between rhythm and vision. The best part? It will be on vinyl too.

Going back to "Kundela Mawedi", what I loved the most about it is the light-as-feather feel the song oozes. The song blends hypnotic rhythms, ethereal voices, psychedelic riffs, and warm bass into a mystical, yet familiar feeling, similar to the one of waves crashing into the shore on a warm summer day. There's something magical about it.
This whole experience made me feel weightless in the most beautiful way possible. Can't wait for the album!
