Thematically and sonically, the title Keep Coming Back for Baltra’s gorgeous new EP is perfectly suited for what we’re welcome to.
The U.S.-based electronic producer Baltra possesses a sound that continuously keeps listeners guessing as he seamlessly drifts between breakbeat, UK Garage, disco, lofi house, acid house, and more. On the opening track of his new body of work however, we see a slight return to his lofi house roots as this listening experience mirrors the sounds of past works like Can’t Explain It EP. This has us drinking from the waters of nostalgia as we’re satiated with crunchy drums and warm, fuzzy pads floating over the stereofield. I can’t neglect to mention the groovy bass line; its presence pulls us toward the dance floor and is the driving force of the track’s energy.
The timing of this is quite fitting considering that Baltra is currently on an EU tour with EELF – a platform for house music that championed the lofi movement before and during its prime. This past Saturday, I happened to hear “Keep Coming Back” during his set in Hamburg, and hearing it wash over the crowd really created an emotive moment on the dance floor. Below, I’ve dropped the tour dates in case you’re in any of the cities:
