Blair / Huber, as the name clearly suggests, is the collaborative project of saxophonist Darius Blair and guitarist Niko Huber. Two long-time friends whose relationship has strengthened through music. A fresh voice from Frankfurt's flourishing jazz scene, they echo the spirit of classics like Charlie Hunter and Julian Lage, blended with the scene of the Snarky Puppy circle. Instead, they lean into a subtle kind of sound, stripped-back yet full of warmth, drawing you in with a quiet, unforced charm.
The duo first came on my radar a few weeks ago, when I heard "NOTHING PERSONAL", which made it on our jazz of today selection. I've been waiting for the full EP ever since, and it was worth the wait. Today, I decided to spotlight a song that gives me this ethereal feeling of calm freedom, which I have a hard time bottling into words. The song is EP's title track, "IN A NEW ORDER" and will enchant you with its soothing simplicity. It feels very ambient, if you ask me.
The EP reminded me of our TromBobby's Six Études for Trombone release we dropped a few months back, if you look for this kind of light, spiritual kind of jazz.
