I was listening to a podcast yesterday where a songwriter I really love said: "There are no good songs without a good love."

That's exactly the case with Montreal-based singer, songwriter, and producer Burgundy and his latest single, "Melbourne". Written after a meaningful relationship that couldn't survive the distance, the song captures that desperate feeling of holding on to a love while knowing it's already over and letting go is the only way forward.

Melancholic, bittersweet, and vulnerable, but somehow also mature and self-aware. I was immediately drawn in by Burgundy's emotional storytelling and rich vocals. And then the chorus kicks in with this unexpectedly uplifting hook, bringing a little lightness without losing any of the song's emotional weight. There's something really beautiful about that contrast and the perspective behind it. Yes, it hurts, but the love was still worth having, and despite the sadness and longing, he also chooses to hold on to the good things it left behind.

There's more to look forward to! Burgundy has an album in the works, perhaps arriving in 2027, with another single, "Sunbleach", already out in the world. I'm already hooked on his sound, so I'll definitely be looking forward to what's next!
