"Complicated" by Doorkiss and Shaine Hailey saunters a fine line between saddening and hopeful by virtue of the instrumental and the themes we're welcomed to in the lyricism.
Doorkiss is a US-based r&b artist who has been releasing music since 2022, and throughout her catalog, the influence of SZA and Summer Walker certainly shines through. The arrangement of the keys on "Complicated" along with the slow bounce from the drums acquaints us with a heartbroken mood. This is highlighted throughout the songwriting of Doorkiss as she walks towards picking up the pieces and healing a broken relationship. Her delivery is utterly soulful and I love that pain can seamlessly be heard in her vocals.
