A blend of balearic dance, lounge downtempo, and alternative pop, this next gem feels like the perfect way to embrace a Friday sunrise, which, in all fairness, I did this morning.
Not sure how many of you read these features, but if you've done this for a while, you know I usually wake up at dawn and have my coffee while watching the sun (if nature allows it). I am predominantly able to function at 110% before lunch, so that ritual is a must if I want to get things done. I guess it comes with age, but I love it.
Colombian electronic musician Ela Minus and Brooklyn-based producer Nick León came together over the summer, turning their chemistry into a 3-track EP, Qué Les Pasó a Mis Amigos?, released in August via Smugglers Way, a Domino Records sub-label. So, my morning soundtrack was this gorgeous Guedra Guedra reimagination of Ela Minus & Nick León's "lose my cool". Fun fact - I believe Alex featured Nick back in 2014 when he was just starting.
The remix feels very light and soothing, and I think the Moroccan DJ and producer absolutely nailed it. He channeled his deeply rhythmic and forward-thinking take on electronic music and created a song that made me feel at peace. It actually reminded me of our PIANIKA label release.

And apparently, the whole thing came together almost effortlessly. "It was so free," León recalls, describing a process built around unspoken understandings and an immediate creative connection. Minus felt it too. She adds, "We immediately felt this kinship."
Honestly, you can hear it.
