One of my favorite new discoveries of 2025 has been Akeem Ali, and his recent feature on Eli Derby’s "Slow Down" stands out as one of the most soulful tracks in his catalog.
Eli Derby is a U.S.-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has been playing music since the age of 2. Fast-forward to today, and he possesses quite a distinctive r&b sound that straddles nostalgia and modernity. The remix of "Slow Down" reminds us of the 70s with it's vintage instrumentation, and this is topped off with a vocal performance that's tender, heartfelt, and dripping with timeless soul. Akeem Ali's impressive verse adds a charismatic flair that elevates the track with effortless swagger and charm.
