Among the highlights from Elmiene’s new album Heat The Streets is the incredibly soulful "Miss Hot July", a piano-led r&b cut that instantly sets the vibe.
Elmiene is a British-Sudanese singer and songwriter who is able to tap into a nostalgic brand of r&b whilst weaving themes of his identity and cultural background into his music. The track "Miss Hot July" in many ways reminds me of the early works of Alicia Keys thanks to the warmth that the piano arrangement bring coupled the hip hop bounce in the drums. It's certainly his velvet-like vocals that steal the show here, Elmiene is passionate and and effortlessly soulful, carrying the track with a sincerity that lingers long after it ends.
