Presenting "light escapes" taken from the freshly-released album and the sky still speaks by the British-born, Denver-based producer and DJ Fantastic Mister Ox.
Blending atmospheric, melancholic textures with rolling grooves and warm, driving bass, all ten tracks on the album were written and recorded at night beneath the aurora borealis in Hvalfjörður, Iceland, using a weathered acoustic guitar, a thrifted Reykjavík xylophone, and field recordings captured on the local glaciers and fjords.
That concept alone immediately pushed Iceland higher up on my bucket list. You can really feel the sense of place throughout the music - immersive, colourful, slightly futuristic, like the soundtrack to standing somewhere remote under a huge night sky full of stars and dancing colours. It genuinely made me imagine hearing these tracks performed live in the middle of all that scenery.
If you’re into “light escapes”, I’d really recommend blocking out 45 minutes of your day and fully immersing yourself in the rest of the album, too.
