To the surprise of many (including myself), Mexico City's Electronic scene is growing exponentially each month for the past year and a half, which is truly amazing, because this scene is now home to a lot of exciting new projects. From the ranks of Electro-Soul act AFF∑R comes the talented WET BAES, who handles production duties on this track, the debut single by singer Nan de Miguel's new project, Grrl Ultra.
"U Betta" is a sultry, 80-indebted, unabashedly funky song, and we finally hear De Miguel's silky, sensual tone at the top of its capacities. The jazzy chords and the sparkling synths combine beautifully, but it's the killer bass line what takes this to another level. It's a nice example of how quickly these young artists are evolving musically. They can be mature and complex, yet still sound as fresh as ever.
