Let me introduce you all to an exceedingly gifted 26-year-old soulstress named Helen Hailu. Though currently based in Atlanta, she was born in Texas with roots from Ethiopia. With such an euphonious voice, I'd advise you to start remembering her name because it won't be long till she starts making appearances on people's radars.
She's mentioned that artists such as Erykah Badu, Mary J. Blige and Outkast (to name a few) have influenced her style. If you've got a sharp ear, you'll realize that Hailu actually samples a short snippet of Outkasts' song "Ms. Jackson" for her chorus. Brilliant!
I'm absolutely loving this girl. Noteworthy vocals paired nicely with old school hip-hop inspired beats. A simple fusion with a massive impact, and that's what makes it so good. From what I can see, she will definitely be releasing more solid stuff in the future, so be sure to stick around.
