We work with a number of prominent Japanese beat and jazz artists and I've been keeping a close eye on the flourishing contemporary scene in the Land Of The Rising Sun. One of my latest discoveries is Tokyo-based 3-piece Insize Collective whose emotionally charged sound built on heavy dynamics feel like a breath of fresh air.
Inspired by artists like Moses Yoofe Trio, the band thrives at the crossroads of jazz tradition and electronic energy. While their roots are firmly grounded in the improvisational language of jazz, they pushes beyond genre boundaries, channeling the fast-paced intensity of drum and bass and the raw punch of breakbeat - all performed live, with no laptops or backing tracks in sight.
I love the crispiness of their sound and the intricately weaved details in "Moon". No AI can beat them raw emotions!
