It's time for the next edition of our mini mix series where we introduce you to one of the most interesting up-and-coming alternative/hip hop artists in the UK - Mickey Lightfoot.

I've had the pleasure of finding his music last year and the thing that really got me was the awesome blend of African culture incorporated in his sound. Enjoy the mini mix and our interview with Mickey (below).

Hi, Mickey! Where do you come from?

The world more specifically resident in London.

You were part of Red Bull Music Academy. I imagine it must have felt absolutely amazing when you got accepted. Can you share a bit more about the experience of being part of it?

Feels like such a long time ago now, but its good to be part of an establishment involved in developing so many great artist. I mean every ones been through there Fly Lp, Aloe Blacc, Mr Hudson, Hudson Mohawke, Evain Christ and more.

Your sound is quite an interesting blend of a number of genres. Do you think your upbringing has influenced that and how do you find inspiration when you compose?

Glad you find it interesting. Yes of course, being brought up in London, every class , colour and creed lives on top of each other. This means your exposed to so many types of sounds and cultures. This alone is inspiring, there is no lack of inspiration in London, the challenge for anyone living here is the expense. It's an expensive city.

How does your average day look like?

No two days are the same, tbh we work in blocks so it maybe 4 weeks on music production, 4 weeks on mixing the records, 4 weeks doing admin , 4 weeks of nachos another 4 weeks of fish and chips, i'm sure you catch my drift.

If you can choose any artists to create a song with, who would that be and why?

Andree 3000 in my mind he is the greatest rapper alive. He pushed boundaries and succeeded its not always easy to do that.

What's next for you, music wise? New tracks, touring?

Yeap another song/EP out this side of the year and then an EP, mixtape then Album in 2016. Tour wise we're ready when the people want us.

What's on your playlist these days? Something we should be checking out?

Azekel, Dean Blunt, Gaika, Mista Silva , Nao, Chance The Rapper, these and more are all on my playlist amongst many more.

Thanks for the interview! Any last thoughts?

Drown the doubt, i'm out !!
