Joyce and I wanted to sing a duet, so I wrote this ballad about an existential aspect of the nightlife: to be or not to be, on the guest list. I take on the roll of both sides, first the caller who needs to cut in line, and then the artist who tries to explain why the guest list is closed. Joyce is trying to set boundaries on the hook.
