After the brilliance of In Waves last year, Jamie XX remains high on my list of favorite producers, and his run only gets stronger with the emotional release "Dream Night".
"Dream Night" is a tune he made while touring In Waves (which landed in our top albums of 2024) this year. It features an incredibly soulful vocal performance that repeats "I saw a dream last night", adding to the track's dream-like and hazy allure. For the most part, this listening experience is driven by immersive pads that are constantly moving and syncopating in unison with the shuffling rhythm section. Even though it was made rather quickly, the track carries a level of detail and cohesion that makes it feel meticulously crafted.
