Janelle Monae’s new single Q.U.E.E.N featuring Erykah Badu is not just a funky record, but also a testimony of personal empowerment. Q.U.E.E.N is a rhythmic bass driven track and like most of her music, lyrically driven. She asks the questions, but boldly states her opinions as well. There is a rap performed by Monae at the end of the song that comes across more as a declaration than just rhyming (including a tag line of her upcoming album The Electric Lady). With the assistance of the eclectic Badu the song instantly becomes an anthem for those who dare do be different. The record isn't so much a great song as it is showcase of Monae’s confidence in her self as well as in her listeners. No one could have presented this track better than Monae.
