Imagine it's the 80s, you drive a convertible, it's the end of the working week and you're cruising around high on life. That's the kind of vibe I picture when I listen to Kalisway's new single "Sugar". A groovy, funky bliss.

The song is the lead single off her new 14-track album, A Kid From Toronto which was released last Friday (Aug 16th) and is the perfect gateway to the charming sonic world of the Canadian singer, songwriter, and producer. Also, a prime example of her natural ability to deliver a classic sound in a distinctly modern way.

Speaking on the album, Kali elaborates, “Being born in a city that’s known for a specific sound, it’s easy to create the perception that you don’t fit in. A Kid From Toronto is a story about the journey of doubt, fear, love, and personal values, and how those experiences build confidence. Confidence that my sound is making a change, confidence that I’m sharing all parts of my mind, and that who I am is what led me to where I am. Every kid from their hometown can relate to this album because anyone can persevere through doubt and make it into magic. This is for the ones that are different. Different in all the right ways.

The track is a great example of a bridge between generations and how a talented artist can have their unique spin on something familiar, turning it into an absolute gem.
