If you're in need of a breather and a moment of clarity, I have good news. Today, we announce the release of Kiasmos' II Rework. A wonderful project spearheaded by Erased Tapes' founder Robert Raths, aiming to re-imagine Ólafur and Janus' original works in a new light.
"This project is very close to my heart since Óli and Janus entrusted me with putting together this remix album. Rather than commissioning different remixers for each track, which can be fun but often results in something that feels more like a compilation of different directions, I set out with the idea of keeping the production team small to create a more consistent album experience," Robert shared in an email.
Talking about the project, Ólafur and Janus share, "There are so many layers within this music, and we were curious to see what might emerge when other artists shone a light on them. Bringing together this dream team felt very special. It was fascinating to discover what each artist connected with and what rose to the surface through their perspective." I've been a lifelong fan of their work, so I naturally felt drawn to this new project and the chance to re-experience some of the tracks in a whole new way.
There are 3 official remixes being unveiled today, and I chose to spotlight one I felt dearest for the time being. Rachika Nayar & Nina Keith have done an outstanding new cinematic take on the original and I fell for it in an instant. That being said, I urgent to to listen to all 3 of them because it's not every day you'll be able to bathe in such an extraordinary otherworldly experience.
"Alex was the first person that came to mind, and I’m incredibly thankful that he was up for going on this sonic journey of decomposing and reconstructing. Rachika and Nina agreed to join at a time when they were hands deep in making their Disiniblud debut record, and I was amazed by just how much energy they brought to the project. Kjartan and Sindri completed the team perfectly — not just musically, but also spiritually since they share the same community, which Alex is also a big part of as he lived in Reykjavík for many years before returning to L.A., where he shares the same community with Rachika and Nina," Robert elaborates.
Fun fact. I had the pleasure of meeting Robert and Anton from the Erased Tapes team in my recent trip to London, and left the meeting inspired and recharged. I love people who put care and attention to detail into their work, and I believe the world and all artists in it need more labels like these guys.
