“WAVE” is the first portal into LATASHÁ’s new universe, OUT HERE - the moment when burnout starts to shift into breakthrough. Rooted in the classic boom-bap sound many people first knew her for, the track gradually unfolds into something more psychedelic, freeing, and emotionally open.
“WAVE is a manifestation song I wrote to get myself through really hard moments. I still play it when I need to remember that I can ride what’s happening instead of letting it drown me. It starts in the boom bap world people first knew me in, then flips into the new world I’m building - it’s that bridge between who I’ve been and who I’m becoming.” – Latashá
There was something instantly surprising about this track the first time I heard it - it didn’t really sound like anything else I had listened to, and I loved it. She really just brings it all: soulful vocals, slick rap delivery, strong production, and a style that's just uniquely hers. The song really did make me feel like I was surfing on the waves or drifting on a boat somewhere far away - chill, carefree, and uplifting. So good!
Raised in Brooklyn, New York among strong West Indian influences and shaped by ancestral roots in Haiti, Panama, Puerto Rico, and Jamaica, LATASHÁ brings a lot of different worlds into her artistry - from hip-hop and electronic production to experimental sounds, visual art, rapping, writing, coding, and DJing.
