A few days ago the world had the pleasure of experience Lillian Blue Makin's debut LP PRIMARY LANGUAGE, and whether or not you're into hip hop, you would have a great time going through what the up-and-coming has crafted.

The record, which consists of 11 tracks, is a genre warp of hip hop, folk, country, r&b and indie. Quite the palette! PRIMARY LANGUAGE explores growing up and growing into your own.

I picked "FEE FI FO" as it absolutely checked every single item on my list - playful feel, groovy bassline, smooth flow and a scent of indie pop and soul thrown in there. This song is about the concept of originality, influence, and independence.

Lilian shares, "The tagline of the first verse, "let's get back to basics" proposes the idea that we are caught up in conditioning and influence and that it is important to ground ourselves and see if it is possible to "get back to basics", if "basics" are objective at all."
