There's a track I can't get out of my head, and it is becoming problematic because I don't have enough bandwidth to listen to new music. Yeah, that's a problem we sometimes have.
Meet Texas-based Magna Carda. The MC-producer dream team blends influences ranging from jazz and hip hop all the way to soulful r&b and futuristic electronica. Chanelling their roots in the Black South, the pair just released their highly anticipated third studio album inninoutcheamind, and I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate both the old tradition and forward-thinking innovation. The whole record is a journey where intricate rhythms and delicate melodies intertwine. I absolutely love the syncopated grooves mixed with spacious, jazzy, lush keys, all that setting a stage for effortlessly flowing delivery.
One of my favourite joints on the album is "Tom's Diner" featuring Kenyan hip hop artist Kichwa Kubwa, whose Swahili bars add an exhilarating flair to the whole composition. Everything about this track is perfection.
