On his new project with emil A Murder of Crows, Mick Jenkins sounds reinvigorated, channeling both raw passion and emotional vulnerability.
The last body of work to wholly grip me from Mick Jenkins was his 2016 debut The Healing Component, and in some ways A Murder of Crows is quite reminicent of his older works. A track that stood out for me here was the emotionally heavy "DeadStock" - a listening experience where he pulls the curtain back and lays out his flaws and struggles in such a poetic manner. The soulful, jazz-influenced instrumental certainly complements the themes we're welcome too, especially towards the end when the keys and synths come to life.
