Mobilé is a spectacular genre-blending jazz band from Germany, which I recently discovered, and I'm beyond excited to share with you.
The 5-piece blends soul, breakbeat, gospel, and spoken word poetry with modern jazz influences, drawing inspiration from artists like Robert Glasper and J Dilla. Formed by chance when all five members began studying at the Mainz University of Music in the winter of 2021, their instant chemistry evolved into a dynamic musical identity shaped by friendship and shared vision. Known for their electrifying live performances and poetic grooves, the band has already earned acclaim with the Sparda Jazz Award 2024 and the Pop-RLP scholarship, signaling a bright future ahead.
Today's spotlight, "Transit", marks the first official single after the release of their debut self-titled EP in 2024. The song reminds me of the electrical charge of the work of Meshell Ndegeocello fused with the freedom expression of artists Alfa Mist and Yussef Dayes, which puts Mobilé at the top of my watch list for 2025.
"Transit captures the feeling of truly being seen and understood. It’s not about the obvious, but about a quiet kind of togetherness - a conscious decision to share time, to be present, to allow closeness to unfold—not through haste, but through attention," the band elaborates.
