A slightly different sound for our curation - you'd normally expect some beats and electronica from us, but this time we're stripping it back to jazz in its purest form: a quartet, live instruments only, slow, emotive melody, made for reflective listening and deep conversations.
This track had me imagining I was a fairytale princess, dancing across a wide green field of flowers, surrounded by birdsong, butterflies, and soft mountain hills.
There was a gentle sadness woven into it, though. Maybe it comes from the fact that the melody was originally composed for the 1960s film Spartacus - a story shaped by love and rebellion. You can really feel that bittersweet edge here, brought to life through Nathanial Young’s masterful, enchanting saxophone playing. Gotta give credits to his band too - so smooth!
Nathanial Young recently blew up on social media with his signature POV-style saxophone videos, building a following of over 1M across TikTok and Instagram.
The LA multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer is currently traveling across Europe, playing free shows in spontaneous, interesting locations - how cool is that? It feels like one of the purest ways to connect with an audience.
“I’m so extremely excited. Since I was very young, it’s been a dream of mine to travel, and since starting this project, I’ve been able to see more of the world than I ever thought I would.”
“Love Theme from Spartacus” is part of Nathanial Young's newly released album Powder, which is a collection of ballads only. If you’re also a sucker for that slow, emotive, smoky jazz sound, you can find the album on all major streaming platforms.
