If you were to imagine a modern day Joy Divison that threw away the melancholy and embraced a bit of pop, you’d be somewhere along the lines of Derek Barber’s latest venture.

Whilst simultaneously writing for existing groups Bells Atlas and Astronauts, etc., the master multi-tasker is also progressing with his solo project, PERHAPSY. With four other members, Barber is bringing something brand new to the table. Describing the group as an ‘experimental pop singer-songwriter project’, the music spans multiple genres and makes for a really interesting listen.

PERHAPSY’s most recent track, “All My Soul Swallowed” manages to capture grunge, rock and pop sounds. As a man with a wealth of musical knowledge and past experience, you can hear it all throughout this latest offering. He blends the vocals seamlessly with the underlying notes, so well in fact, you question whether they’ve ever been apart. PERHAPSY combines such smooth vocal work with intricate musical layers to produce an incredibly polished and masterful piece.
