Indie, folk, techno, electro, synth blah blah blah. How about some real blues?

Steven Gene Wold, commonly known as Seasick Steve, is a 72 years old American musician, former bum and truck driver (?). This guy is simply epic. He is playing blues, but he doesn't like to be called bluesman, he prefers "a song and dance man". He was a breakthrough act in Britain in 2007 and that’s when he became an often guest at various festivals, including Leeds, Glastonbury, Roskilde.

The instruments he is playing deserve a separate post. Apart from playing normal guitars, he is playing: the three-string trance wonder (a regular guitar, but with 3 strings only), the one-stringed diddley bo (a piece of wood with a one string attached to it, Steve is using an old screw driver to play it), the mississippi drum machine (a small box which Steve stomps, decorated with a mississippi registration plate) and a bunch of other weirdly decorated and assembled instruments. One of the guitars (or better say a part of it) was given to Steve by his friend, "this boy Jack White".

I'm not the biggest fan of country and blues, but these tunes make me dance. I saw Seasick Steve live at Pinkpop 2012 and he was one of the best acts I saw there. You can check out his full performance here. It's worth the time, trust me. His third album "Hubcap Music" will be released this April, don't miss it!
