Shaolinn is one of those young artists that feel like a source of hope for whatever's next for music. The young (I believe early 20s) Virginia Beach-based artist lives at the cross-section of alt r&b and hip hop music and is equally skilled at dropping razor blade sharp bars and soulful lullabies. Her desire to make music sparked from childhood, first ignited by a game inspired many, Rock Band, and further enhanced by the thrill of imagining herself onstage. After years of channeling her creativity through poetry, she found her voice again in high school, turning her words into songs that would mark the start of her journey as an artist.
While this is our first feature of Shaolinn, she's been around for quite some time with her 2020 EP Organized Mixed Emotions turning some heads in the music space. Today, we witness her growth of recent years which is perfectly exhibited in "WITNESS ME" where she perfectly balances her melodic vocals and flow delivery. One of the most outstanding traits of the track is her poetic depth and lyrical prowess. That part hits particularly hard,
You see, I tried to edit all your flaws / I should have known / accepted you for who you are / a leech hiding in the water when I dive
Betting on this girl to go far. Talent like hers deserves the spotlight.
