The songwriting on here certainly reminded me of Xavier Rudd and when it came to the vibe, it was very much reminiscent to that of James Vincent McMorrow.
One of the highlights of Written by Rules was actually the climax... That moment opened up in such a stunning fashion by virtue of Simon's harmonies fully occupying the stereo field and the drums finally making themselves present. The lyrics in the track is also something which can't escape mention.
"This song was written after Simon volunteered in the Calais refugee camp for 7 months in 2015/16"
