It was earlier this year when a close friend of mine sat me down and showed me the Los Angeles based duo, slenderbodies. Knowing my love for catchy guitar hooks and beautiful vocal melodies, I immediately fell in love with the group and had to consume everything they had ever released.
Thankfully, they decided to drop a surprise cover of none other than Brittney Spears 2003 hit song, "Toxic." Though I'll openly admit I was never a fan of hers, slenderbodies has magically transformed my appreciation of her pop hit and I find myself singing along to their cover.
The song opens with beautifully plucked guitar hooks, bouncing back and forth before the warm vocal melodies capture all of your attention. When I close my eyes, all I can picture is this song playing in the background while I enjoy a few drinks by a poolside or near the beach - what a track to end the summer on.
