Two months ago Smoke DZA and Flying Lotus dropped their collab project Flying Objects, and surprisingly, it slipped by my radar when it dropped. I recently dived into their body of work and came out with the track "Drug Trade" stuck in my rotation.
This is not only one of the highlights of the project, but the pair has also invited one of the best rappers of all time Black Thought for the final verse. Over a soulful yet eerie instrumental, Smoke DZA details his experience and what he has seen from the drug trade in his neighborhood and how it has impacted the people in his life. What I find fascinating is how Black Thought cheekily contrasts this with a somewhat playful verse that lightens the mood and I loved this dynamic. On "Drug Trade", we're essentially welcome to a combination of thought-provoking and a sense of carefreeness. Dive into the full EP below:
