Keeping my youth spirit is something I have always striven for. That is why I am still listening to pop punk in my late twenties-soon-to-be-thirties. That and the fact I grew up listening to bands like Green Day, The Offspring, Blink-182 and New Found Glory.
The newest wave of pop punk bands though, have something the 90s bands didn't. These kids are listening to all kinds of music and they bring something new to the table. Growing up in the hardcore scene while listening to pop punk bands is probably the best formula these days. Bringing the hardcore spirit into the pop punk music and live shows...weird, but it works.
State Champs is the latest band I found that grabbed my attention with their catchy songwriting and the amazing voice of vocalist Derek Discanio. When I first heard their song "Critical" I had to replay it few more times and whenever this happens I know the band is worth it.
Signed to Pure Noise Records, State Champs released their latest EP called Overslept in 2012. This summer the band is on tour with New Found Glory! Hell yeah!
