It’s been a while since I’ve listened to a new singer/songwriter and genuinely got excited. Far too often, acoustic artists lack depth and intrigue and can be quite simply boring. The Beach is far from that.
In this expertly crafted track just shy of 4 minutes, The Beach, AKA George Morgan takes us on one hell of a journey. He starts with a sombre and slow intro with some beautiful lyrical lines that prompt thoughts of early Damien Rice. He then moves us towards more modern sounds that mirror the likes of Ben Howard in the last 60 seconds. The upbeat and joyous latter tie off what can only be described as a musical and emotive journey.
"Thieves" really is a track to get excited about. Its troughs and peaks and musical course are something very rare to find in a new artist – particularly when it’s done this well.
This full yet harmonious track is excellent and I think we can expect great things from the mysterious The Beach.
