Today we celebrate the art of one of my favorite singers and someone we were lucky enough to have on our label - Android Ethics' vocalist Tien Viet Nguyen and his brand new solo LP, Whatever You're Feelin,' which came out last week.
One of the stand-out tracks on the record, "Samedi" (Saturday in French), was written along the tranquil banks of a river in Nantes during the Tien's honeymoon. I feel that experience was what infused the track with a feeling of intimacy and spontaneity. He also invited Brazilian musician Josué Mariano to record the track live and create a seamless fusion of wanderlust and warmth, captured in a one-take session that feels as organic as its inception.
I had a pretty stressful couple of days, so I ended up playing the song on my balcony during sunset today, and it made all the weird emotions go away. I love the breezy feeling in both the music and Tien's friendly, yet alluring voice.
If you like the early Tom Misch and Jordan Rakei, you'll fall in love with "Samedi".
