One funkalicious afro-groove track coming your way! Can you guys handle all this funk?

First time I listened to this track, I was instantly overwhelmed by all the elements, the intricacies, the soul, the powerful percussion and that damn hypnotic funk! The Orchester Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou, is a band that formed in 1966 in Cotonou, Benin. Their music style (other than it falling under the big umbrella of West African music), cannot be pinned down to specifics but rather a combination of genres. Afrobeat, jazz, James Brown-influenced funk and local voodoo influences Quite the variety of genres all wrapped in one band huh? Check out this track to hear it for yourself!

A quote that I very much enjoyed from lead vocalist Vincent Ahehehinnou, says: "All African tradition is based in vodoun. Every god has its own rhythm and it's a huge legacy of music”.

Chew on that thought!
