DYD started to make a name for themselves this summer. Back then, they have issued a podcast and a single under the name DID. The name change occurred for copyright infringement reasons, since another act has been already known by this name. Anyway this change was also a way for these 3 Italians to stand out from the crowd and express their originality and uniqueness.

GOD is to be released today via Gang of Ducks label. Actually the EP was named after the Italian Berlin-based label, which they are all fond of. It was produced by the Italian producer Vaghe Stelle.

I’ve discovered the songs live, as the band opened for Breton on their last War Room Stories European Tour. It was probably one of the best opening acts I ever encountered – along with Grizfolk & TRAAMS.

DYD’s sound could be described as Seekae meets Breton: electro-pop, tropical beats, vocoder and reverbs.

GOD opens on “Archistar”, a track mixing squeaking and tropical beats, steady electronic drums and organic drumming. It’s what I describe as dark disco, a musical genre where you would rave in the middle of the day in an abandoned club, I guess.

“#Magic“ is the kind of mesmerizing song, with bewitching sounds and repetitive vocals. As if black magic dust were pouring over you. You just have to yield to DYD’s charm and surround to “Y Factor”, a mysterious yet catchy track.

As some sort of bonus, the EP closes on a “vocal tool edit” version of “Archistar”, a nice way to complete the loop.

GOD prefigures DYD's first album, expected in 2015. Keep an eye on thoses guys...
