This EP was released last year on Chess Club Records and listening to it now, I’m obsessed with it once again. Oceean, whose real name is Oliver Cean, is a producer from Manchester who brings together electronic sounds with his R&B influenced vocals.

The first song of the Grip EP already gets you hooked. Great production skills by Oceaan throughout the EP, but the title track particularly highlights this. This track has dance vibes written all over it. The build up to this song is great. I like the gradual layered complexity and the consistency of the percussions.

Oceaan's R&B influenced vocals are best heard in "Veritas", which holds a Ben Khan sort of vibe.

"Fall At Your Feet" is an emotional track and also my favourite. The haunting melodies and earnest lyrics in the chorus are simply beautiful, matching the sultry pitched down vocals. A combination that perfectly echoes the heartache felt in this track.

In addition to listening to his other tracks, it is easy to see where Oceaan draws his inspiration from - James Blake.  This being said, Oceaan still remains original and someone that we are definitely looking forward to hearing more of.

Stay up to date.
