Some hours ago someone asked me why I stopped writing more personal/emotional posts on Stereofox and ever since I came home I tried to dig out the answer to the question hoping it lies somewhere in the depository of my consciousness.

While the reasons for that are many, the lack of music to make me sit down, shut my mind off everything else and start writing is perhaps one of the possible answers to that question. That's why when I laid my hands on the new Sekuoia EP Reset Heart (out via Humming Records) I felt I should do something I haven't done in a while. Break out of the routine. Write this as I randomly got up to get some water in the middle of the night instead of going back to sleep.

But let's talk about Patrick Alexander Bech-Madsen - the dude behind Sekuoia whose music I've been developing a healthy obsession over the past few weeks. Whether you're a fan of the term experimental electronica or you even give a fuck about it, the best way to describe his newest EP Reset Heart is...

"sounds one should simply listen to regardless of personal musical preferences"

While being just 4 tracks and 15 minutes long, Sekuoia manages to send us into quite the opposite directions when it comes to composition. "Waves" (play the track from the play button in the top the post) has very dream pop-like feeling which frankly said I was surprised to hear (then again I've been listening to him for about 2 weeks, so...), while "Somewhere" and "Bella" felt like an arrow straight to my experimental spot.

Another thing that made me strong impression and I felt like sharing few thoughts on is the EP titles - Reset Heart. I would love to know the artist's inspiration behind that title, but what it makes me think of is the sometimes necessary "reset" of our emotions and previous experiences. The fact that in some cases in order to be able to move forward and embrace something or someone new in our lives, we have to be able to kinda "reset" that pulsing thing which keeps us alive. I don't mean to forget or erase such things as they are very important to who we are and what we've become but more of making space for whatever is ahead so to say. I hope this is making any sense!

But yeah - his music and the EP in particular are absolutely mind-blowing and I got nothing but utter respect for this guy. The tiredness is taking over, so I will wrap this and I hope these lines made at least a tiny bit sense to you and the way you experience Reset Heart.

The full EP can be found here. For you Berliners - catch Sekuoia live in Berghain on 14th of May. More info here.

Something kinda random, but I thought of for who knows what reason of this quote:

"Judge people not by what they are, but by what they strive to become"

As long we have the desire to become something or the fear of not becoming that something, I think we're on the right path. If not - we eventually will.
