One of the things I’ve always admired about the immensely talented Alfa Mist is his ability to weave unexpected moments into his music, and we're welcome to exactly that on his new album Roulette.

Before the UK jazz scene rose to prominence, Alfa Mist was among the early stars in the making blending the sophistication of jazz with elements like hip hop, electronica, and other cultural influences. Roulette showcases where his decade long sonic evolution is at, and one of my favorite moments has got to be "From East". It's moody progression blurs the line between hope and melancholy, and this is accentuated by the dreamy keys alongside the cries of the sax echoing in the foreground. The drums offer a heartbeat beneath the haze - they're dynamic, bursting with energy, and continuously surprise the listener.
