“Leave It Be” is a warm, lush, and introspective neo-soul/alt-R&B gem, co-produced by US/London-based singer-songwriter Alyx Bell and US-based POSY. Inspired by the loss of a relationship while moving across the world, the track carries that bittersweet wistfulness of looking back on old memories while slowly learning to let them go. With musical influences ranging from Hiatus Kaiyote to Sade, there’s plenty to sink into here.
And I love a good story behind the music! Just before moving to London, Alyx met fellow artist and producer POSY online through Jordan Rakei’s Discord server. Turns out, they were living in the same city, and what started as an online connection grew into a fruitful creative partnership, eventually bringing us this little gem (and me writing about it today).
POSY is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist whose sound draws from spiritual jazz and alternative R&B, with artists like Shabaka Hutchings, Alfa Mist, and Kiefer among his influences. I’m already hoping this won't be the last we hear from the two of them.
And there's more good news: Alyx has just announced her debut EP, Born To Be Cool, arriving November 6th. If you're in London, you can also catch her performing it live the following day at SJQ in Dalston.
