We've been building up our Jazz genre family, and with its evolution, we thought it was a good idea to provide more (niche) context. Modern Jazz reflects the contemporary evolution of jazz that is rooted in tradition but embracing new global influences. Often acoustic/live-instrumentation-driven, some hybrid instrumentation can be traced in this modern twist of the classic genre. While retaining jazz's defining traits - improvisation, rich harmonies, and expressive musicianship - modern jazz embraces contemporary composition and draws influences from hip hop, soul, classical, and electronic music without being defined by any single genre. You'll hear artists like Kamasi Washington, Ezra Collective, corto.alto, and Alfa Mist.
