Nicole McCabe is a US genre-defying saxophonist and composer bringing the expressive power of modern jazz into dialogue with the sonic worlds of electronic, indie, and experimental music.
“Monstera” is the first track of her latest album All Together Now, featuring Savannah Harris, a US drummer, producer, arranger and music director equally fluent in the deep traditions of jazz and the genre-blurring language of contemporary Black music. It feels like a very dynamic and energetic piece - probably where it got its wild and tropical name from. McCabe’s build-up of expressive saxophone melodies hug around Harris’s gentle drum grooves, creating a beautiful balance.
If this track brings you to a flow state as it did to me, make sure to listen to the whole album, because it's really a gem in the contemporary jazz scene.
