We’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of anaiis’ Devotion & The Black Divine, and last week it finally arrived, with "Moonlight" shining as one of the album's brightest moments.
I first came across the French-Senegalese artist anaiis last year through her colorful, Brazilian-influenced project with Grupo Cosmo. Devotion & The Black Divine however dives into a range of sonic and lyrical themes, some uplifting, and some somber. The strings floating in the backdrop of "Moonlight" adds to the emotional weight of track as anaiis delivers empowering verses about being comfortable in your skin and embracing what's within you. I REALLY loved how the ending turns cinematic yet soulful at the same time, creating a finale that feels both expansive and deeply intimate.
