The character Maury111 revealed itself to the french musician Benjamin Ruby during a moment of epiphany. Former soloist in the children’s choir of the Opéra de Paris, Ruby played in different bands in the french capital city before moving to Berlin and to dig deeper in his new character. Defining Maury111’s music as “mysticosmic” pop, the sound is a mix of bionic sounds and introspective moods. Fascinated by desert landscapes since a journey in Joshua Tree, CA, Ruby traveled in January 2020 to Morocco, where he stayed with a Berber family on the edge of the Sahara, going on long solitary walks in the desert.
