Tanajah is a hip hop artist and rapper based in Raleigh, North Carolina, whose music is best characterized by her ability to convey reflectiveness, self-empowerment and altogether positive vibes through her lyrical and musical expression. Tanajah's music appeals to being true to yourself, trusting the path you're on and don't stop believing and working on reaching your goals. The talented rapper and performer grew up in Germantown, Maryland and found music early on in her upbringing with her mother being a singer. Tanajah started freestyling in middle school while also picking up percussion, which led her to study the drums at North Carolina Central University. However, after finishing her studies, Tanajah realized that she had to chase her dream of being the artist and not the drummer of some band. One day back in 2018, Tanajah went to an open mic and simply just blew the audience's mind by her performance. A music reporter from IndyWeek said the following in a review of one of her first live performances: "Tanajah has built a reputation for having the kind of live performances that are almost impossible to follow.". These experiences fueled her with energy and confirmed that she had to put all of her focus into expressing herself through music and live performances. Not so coincidentally, 'Tanajah' means 'attention' in Hindu, which is probably the best way to describe her live appearance - because when Tanajah enters the stage - she demands your attention. She's first and foremost inspired by herself when it comes to her music, but is also influenced by the genres of hip-hop, pop, RnB, neo-soul and artists such as Missy Elliot, Beyoncé, 2Pac, Kanye West, Hiatus Kaiyote and Noname.
