In case you ever wondered what comes after the silence, it's this beautiful ambient fairy tale created by Fennesz and Bajune Tobeta. A textually serene track that explores the pair's deep connection via their mutual collaborator Ryuichi Sakamoto.
I was instantly drawn by the gorgeous way they use space and silence, and fill it with the right amount of sound. It has been a place to seclude myself in times of stress (and a perfect addition to our ADHD Focus Mode playlist.
On the track, Tobeta shares, "Christian and I both studied and worked with Ryuichi Sakamoto, but we had never recorded together until this track. We worked between Tokyo and Vienna, sending sounds back and forth. The title refers to what comes after the silence that Sakamoto left behind."
The song will be included in Bajune Tobeta's upcoming record, Anechoic (Aug 14th). The Tokyo-based composer, producer, and acoustic researcher has managed to create a superb piece that glides delicately between sound and silence. A collection that feels suspended in time, quietly expansive, and deeply personal. After taking a glimpse into this world, I can't wait to share more with you. Anechoic takes its title and opening track from the concept of the anechoic chamber, a room engineered to absorb all reflections of sound. Tobeta, who studied under Ryuichi Sakamoto and has spent three decades researching the relationship between sound and human consciousness, translated this concept into music: a fusion of orchestral instrumentation and electronics that renders silence itself as a compositional element.
