Started by Azuli Records back in 2009, and later on continued by Ninja Tune, Late Night Tales are series of artist-curated compilation albums that showcase their taste, exclusive new releases, and often up-and-coming artists. My favourite editions are Ólafur Arnalds, Bonobo, and Khruangbin's editions - all releases that have given me countless memorable evenings.

Barry Can't Swim is gearing up to release a brand-new Late Night Tales compilation on March 6th, and today we got a taste of what's coming up. "I can't tell you how much of a fan I am of this series, it got me through so many of my uni days and informed so much of my taste, so getting asked to do my own was a real pinch me moment. Spent a lot of nights digging through records and filling it with some of my favourite tunes, a couple of exclusives from me too", the artist shared on Instagram last Friday.
"Chala (My Soul Is On A Loop)", which samples Ethiopian singer Aster Aweke, is one of the most grounding and spiritual songs you'll hear. Kicking off with a subtle adagio-paced synth, the track suddenly switches into a powerful and almighty energy that channels the energy of Aweke's home country. Every time I listen to this, I get goosebumps and feel elevated.
This is the power of music.
