2025 was my year of love and appreciation for ambient and drone music. I had quite a few albums from within the space being listed on my essentials and that push for calm, ethereal music paved the way for further music discovery.

I feel that this is my unconscious way of protecting myself from the endless stream of distraction, which feels unbearable at times. I have this thing called current obsessions - songs and albums I default to when I don't need to explore new sounds, and as of last year I always try to sneak-in at least a few albums from the space. Today, I would love to share with you the art of Billow Observatory - a trans-Atlantic project created by Danish producer Jonas Munk and US-based guitaristJason Kolb, who is also a member of ambient/space-rock group Auburn Lull.

The two create deeply immersive music that floats through time and space and can be a vehicle towards lands of pure bliss. I believe the name of the track derives from the Russian word Bukhta (бухта) - a sheltered, recessed coastal body of water connected to a larger main body (like an ocean or lake). I find it quite fitting, you know? I can imagine a scenery landscape somewhere in the North and this track as a backdrop.

"Bukhta" will be included in their forthcoming 26-minute EP Resina, scheduled for release on March 13th. Across 7 tracks, the record will rift through shadowy, hypnotic landscapes, just like I like it. I hope for a dense, immersive, and slow-burning experience, and I am sure the duo will deliver.
