The Doldrums

"The Doldrums" is the kind of track that refuses to be limited by the boundaries of genres, to the point where you'll be left dumbfounded trying to categorize this.

I hear bits of Connan Mockasin, Bon Iver, and even Fiona Apple in the latest body of work by Caroline Rose. The U.S.-based artist creates an eerie atmosphere with her haunting vocals and experimental soundscapes here and that makes for quite a compelling build-up.

When the drums eventually roll in, the track bursts to life and this is further complemented by the presence of a beefy bass line. The wait for the climax is long but CERTAINLY worth it.
